Texas A&M DE Shemar Stewart taken No. 17 overall, in the NFL Draft

Defensive end Shemar Stewart went No.17 overall to the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday.

One of the more polarizing first-round prospects due to Stewart’s lack of production with the Aggies, here’s what else to know about the Florida native.

Shemar Stewart

School: Texas A&M

Round: 1, Pick 17

Hometown: Miami, Florida

What you should know about him: In three seasons with the Aggies, Stewart had 4.5 sacks during his three seasons at College Station, with some draft experts questioning his lack of production. Others noted his elite athleticism and size at his position, with (insert team) seeing more reward than risk.

How he fits on the Cincinnati Bengals: The Bengals are currently in a “poor” contract negotiation with star edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, who is looking to be paid like a top defensive player in the league, and Stewart could be a replacement if the Bengals look to move on rather than pay Hendrickson.
