The Arlington Renegades fell 24-11 to the St Louis Battlehawks on Sunday.

It was the Renegades second loss of the year which makes them 2-2 on the season.

Here’s what went wrong in the Renegades loss.

Renegades offense sputtering

Kyle Sloter has started the last two games for the Renegades after Drew Plitt was benched. Unfortunately for the Rengades the change at quarterback still hasn’t had an appreciable effect on the offense.

The Renegades have only scored two touchdowns over their last two games.

Sloter struggled against the Battlehawks going 23-of-39 for 205 yards with three interceptions. Sloter’s first interception bounced off the hands of a Renegades wide receiver into a Battlehawk defender’s arms.

That play summed up the Renegades offensive performance in the game.

The offense wouldn’t have much more success over the remainder of the game only having two scoring drives which totaled 91 yards in between them.

Battlehawks wide receivers soar

The Renegades defense has been their most successful unit all season and though they notched another turnover against A. J. McCarron to start the game the Renegades secondary struggled to slow down Battlehawk pass catchers.

Darrius Shepherd and Hakeem Butler combined for 13 receptions for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Butler had the touchdown that put the game out of reach for the Renegades.

Battlehawks rushing attack

The Renegades rush defense allowed their first 100-yard rushing game to an opponent against the Battlehawks who were led by Brian Hill who had 18 carries for 89 yards with a touchdown.

As a team, the Battlehawks ran for 110 yards and were able to get key conversions from the running game.

The Renegades next play the San Antonio Brahmas on Sunday at 9 p.m. CT at the Alamodome.
