The Arlington Renegades rebounded from their first loss of the season with a 10-9 victory over the Orlando Guardians in a defensive slugfest.

The Renegades suffered their first loss of the 2023 XFL season in week two against the Houston Roughnecks.

Here’s how the Renegades pulled off the victory.

Defensive Dominance

The Renegades defense has been their most dominant unit this season and they continued that trend holding the Guardians to nine points. It was the Guardians’ lowest scoring output, the first time they didn’t score in the double digits.

The Renegades continued to create turnovers notching two more off fumbles during this game.

Arlington’s defense continues to set the tone for the team and keep them in each game despite the problems on the offensive side of the ball.

Sloter’s first start

Drew Plitt started at quarterback the first two weeks. However, the offense scored only two touchdowns and struggled to score and move the ball consistently.

The Renegades benched Plitt and turned to Sloter in hopes of turning around their offense. Those hopes went unfulfilled in Sloter’s first start.

While Sloter was accurate, throwing for 124 yards on 18-of-23 attempts with a touchdown pass. The offense struggled just as much as it had under Plitt only accounting for 178 total yards in the game while averaging 3.8 yards per play.

However, when the Renegades had to have a touchdown Sloter came up huge, leading a 12-play 74-yard touchdown drive that won the Renegades the game.

The Renegades next play on Sunday against the St Louis Battlehawks at 3 p.m. CT at The Dome at America’s Center (ESPN2 and ESPN+).
