Longhorns ex Metcalf among Texas Sports Hall of Fame nominees
Former University of Texas running back/kick returner Eric Metcalf is on the final ballot of nominees to be voted on for the Texas Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2016
Metcalf was a three-time All-Southwest Conference running back and two-time conference long jump champion at Texas.
He played 13 years in the NFL and was named to the Pro Bowl three times. He had 12 career kick returns for touchdowns (10 punt returns, two kickoff returns).
A first-round pick (13th overall) by Cleveland in the 1989 draft, Metcalf played with seven teams. They were Atlanta, San Diego, Arizona, Carolina, Washington, and Green Bay. He spent his first six seasons with the Browns.
Former Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Larry Allen, rodeo sensation Trevor Brazile, Texas Rangers infielder Michael Young, and Dallas Mavericks guard and current Milwaukee coach Jason Kidd are also on the ballot.
Generally six nominees from the primary ballot and two from the veteran ballot will comprise the Class of 2016.
The official announcement will be made in September. The banquet to enshrine the class will take place in early next year in Waco.
