Report: A key starter for this Cowboys’ NFC East rival is now out for the season

It seems like starting running backs are dropping like flies.

Early on Monday, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that Jacksonville Jaguars star Leonard Fournette would not play in the team’s upcoming game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Later in the day, one Cowboys’ NFC East rival got bad news, too.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Philadelphia Eagles will be without starting running back Jay Ajayi for the remainder of the season. Per the report, Ajayi tore his ACL on Sunday during his team’s 23-21 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

The team placed the back on injured reserve, per Schefter’s sources.

Corey Clement and Wendell Smallwood, the Eagles’ two backups, will likely split carries in Ajayi’s place.

The Cowboys will play their first of two games against the Eagles on Nov. 11 in Philadelphia.
