Green Bay Packers oppose McClatchy and Star-Telegram over Titletown trademark
The Green Bay Packers are challenging McClatchy’s attempts to trademark “Titletown, TX,” the name of the Star-Telegram’s documentary series.
The Packers have trademarks for Titletown, Titletown U.S.A., and the Titletown Towel.
Now, Forbes reports, the Packers are filing a complaint with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board in response to a trademark request made by McClatchy U.S.A., a subsidiary of The McClatchy Company, the parent company of the Star-Telegram.
“Titletown, TX” documented Aledo High School’s quest in 2016 to win a sixth football state championship. “Titletown, TX 2: Hail Mary,” which chronicles Texas Wesleyan’s first season of football since 1941, debuts Wednesday.
McClatchy, meanwhile, has a policy of not commenting on legal issues.
