About the Mavs: This opens a three-game road trip for the Mavs, which continues at Miami on Friday and at Orlando on Saturday. Dallas returns home Monday to host Minnesota. ... In their only previous meeting this season, the Mavericks lost to the Rockets 95-92 in Houston on Nov. 22. Dallas led that game by four points with 58 seconds to play but missed three shots and had a turnover in their final four possessions. ... In that game, former Rockets forward Chandler Parsons was booed every time he touched the basketball. Parsons shot just 3 of 9 from the field and finished with eight points and eight rebounds in 34 minutes. ... Parsons played three years with the Rockets before signing a three-year, $46 million free-agent contract with the Mavs last July. ... The Mavs have two more games against the Rockets, both in Dallas, on Feb. 20 and April 2.
About the Rockets: Guard James Harden leads the NBA in scoring (27.6) but has put that average to shame in his last four games. Harden has scored 45 points against Indiana, 33 against both Golden State and Phoenix, and 37 against the Los Angeles Lakers. For good measure, Harden threw in a buzzer-beater to cap the 113-111 win over Phoenix. ... Center Dwight Howard, who is averaging 16.3 points and 11 rebounds, injured his right ankle last Friday against Phoenix, missed Sunday’s Lakers game and is a game-time decision against the Mavs. ... The Rockets are 11-7 since signing Detroit Pistons castoff Josh Smith, who has averaged 10.2 points and 5.1 rebounds in 24 minutes. ...
