Mavs snap five-game losing streak with 107-96 win over Charlotte

Why the Mavs won: Carrying a heavy load against the NBA’s hottest team, the Dallas Mavericks went on the road and did what not many thought they could do.

Behind 23 points and 11 rebounds from Dirk Nowitzki, the Mavs snapped a season-high five-game losing streak Monday night after they gutted out a 107-96 victory over the red-hot Charlotte Hornets at the Time Warner Cable Arena. It was the most signifcant road win of the season for the Mavs.

The Hornets entered the game with a league-high seven-game winning streak and also with the sixth-best home court record in the NBA at 26-9. But the Mavs stared that down, built a 19-point lead at the half, blew that lead entirely early in the fourth quarter, and then rallied for the comeback victory.

Key players: Besides Nowitzki, the Mavs got 24 points and nine rebounds from Chandler Parsons, Deron Williams scored 11 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter, and David Lee and Devin Harris added 12 points apiece. Also, Raymond Felton returned home anad collected nine points and 12 assists for the Mavs.

Key stat: Chandler Parsons scored 24 points and was 9-of-14 from the field, including 5-of-9 form 3-point range.
