Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki takes a bite out of his namesake burger

Proof is in the pudding.

Or in this case the burger.

Dallas Mavericks superstar Dirk Nowitzki tasted his namesake Dirkburger at the American Airlines Center Monday.

Nowitzki and American Airlines Center executive chef Mark Mabry created the Dirkburger that will be sold in concessions stands (106 and 118) throughout the month of March.

"Usually I try to stay away from burgers during the season. When you're 37-38, you need to try to stay as healthy as you can to kind of keep up with the young guys,” Nowitzki said. “All the Mavs out there got to try this burger. It is really, really good.

“My favorite word is burger, so whenever I talk trash about somebody I always say he's a burger. I've been doing that for basically my entire career.”

The Mavericks have eight home games in March. The first is Tuesday against Orlando.

The Dirkburger is a 1/3 pound burger on Bavarian pretzel bun that includes jalapeno beer cheese, bacon onion marmalade, arugula & mustard horseradish aioli plus french fries.

Cost is $12.

Fans will get their first bite at the burger Tuesday night when the Mavericks host Orlando.

In January, Mabry and rookie guard Justin Anderson created the Just-In-Time Burger that was sold only at the AAC during that month.

“We tried it with Justin (Anderosn) first, the fans loved it, his burger was really good, but I think this burger topped it off. So here it it, the Dirkburger,” he said.
