Why the Mavs won: The Dallas Mavericks kept their foot on the gas pedal all night Sunday en route to running away with an easy 128-101 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. This is the largest margin of victory for the Mavs. It was a festive night for the sellout crowd at American Airlines Center as the Mavs scored 39 points in the first quarter and also powered their way to a comfortable 99-74 lead after the third period. While playing selfless basketball, the Mavs had a season-high tying 28 assists — by the end of the third quarter. Dallas ended up with a season-high 34 assists. The victory gives the Mavs a 3-1 record on this six-game home stand which resumes Tuesday against Orlando.

Key players: Chandler Parsons poured in a game-high 29 points on 10-of-15 shots, Wesley Matthews scored 15, J.J. Barea tallied 12 points, and Dirk Nowitzki and Deron Williams had 10 points apiece. Also, David Lee (13 points, nine rebounds) was one rebound shy of his second straight double-double.

Key stat: No Mavs starter played in the fourth quarter as the starting five combined to score 70 points through three periods.
