Dallas Wings coach to work Team USA women’s camp
Dallas Wings coach Fred Williams will help serve as a court coach at the USA Basketball Women’s National Team’s training camp Sunday through Tuesday in Storrs, Conn.
WNBA players Skylar Diggins and Odyssey Sims, members of the Wings, were among finalists as the team prepares for the 2016 Olympic Games, but they won’t be at training camp. Duncanville’s Tamika Catchings (Indiana Fever) is one of the 16 players who will participate.
The USA national team is coached by Connecticut coach Geno Auriemma, who has guided the squad to an overall 23-0 record and gold medals at the 2012 Olympics and 2010 and 2014 FIBA World Championships. The 2016 Olympic Games are Aug. 5-21 in Rio de Janeiro.
The Wings, who will play home games at UT Arlington’s College Park Center, open their inaugural season in DFW on May 14. The home opener is May 21.
