Why the Mavs lost: Gordon Hayward fired in a 20-footer from the corner at the buzzer as the Utah Jazz defeated the Dallas Mavericks, 121-119 in overtime on Tuesday night at American Airlines Center. It was the first time the Jazz have won a game in Dallas in their last 11 tries. It was the Mavs’ final game before Sunday’s All-Star game. This also was the eighth overtime game of the season for the Mavs, which is the most in the NBA this year. The Mavs are now 6-2 n overtime games.

The Mavs’ next game will be Feb. 19 in Orlando.

Key players: Rodney Hood led Utah with 29 points, Gordon Hayward scored 20, Derrick Favors had 16 points and eight rebounds, and Rudy Gobert added 14 points and 10 rebounds.
