MINNEAPOLIS, Minn – Powerball fever is sweeping the country, with the estimated jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing approaching an incredible $1 billion.
But don’t expect Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki to be among those who will purchase a lottery ticket. With the odds so long of winning, that’s just not Nowitzki’s cup of tea.
"I haven’t played the lottery in a long time,’’ Nowitzki said after Saturday’s practice at the Target Center. "My dad used to play growing up and every week he played the same numbers, and I think one year we actually won like 400 bucks.
"I remember it was a huge deal. He was so fired up.’’
Nowitzki has earned over $200 million in his 18th season with the Mavs. He understands the lottery frenzy, but it’s just not his game.
"I don’t play,’’ Nowitzki said. "I think the chances are pretty slim to none (of winning), so don’t count me in as one.’’
