Why the Mavs won: Despite being short-handed, the Dallas Mavericks defeated the host New Orleans Pelicans 100-91 on Wednesday night. The Pelicans entered the game 2-1 against the Mavs this season, including a 105-98 victory in Dallas on Saturday.

Key players: The Mavs were led by Raymond Felton (22 points, six assists), Chandler Parsons (21 points, seven rebounds and six assists), Dwight Powell (13 points, 10 rebounds), J.J. Barea (11 points) and Devin Harris (10 points, six assists)

Key stat: The Mavs held the Pelicans to 37 percent shooting from the field.

Records: Mavs 21-15, Pelicans 11-23
