Why the Mavs won: After a slow start, the Dallas Mavericks picked up the pace and proceeded to run over and around the Memphis Grizzles, winning 97-88 on Friday night at American Airlines Center. The Mavs were down 12-2 early in the game, and then turned on the jets and won their last home game before Christmas.

Key players: Dirk Nowitzki scored 20 points in only 28 minutes, Chandler Parsons scored 16 in a season-high 30 minutes, Deron Williams scored 14, and JaVale McGee had season highs in points (10), blocks (3) and minutes (18).

Key stat: JaVale McGee had three lob dunks Friday. That’s the most in one game for a Mavs player this season.

Records: Grizzlies 14-13, Mavs 15-12
