Why the Mavs lost: Kawhi Leonard showed why he is the future face of the San Antonio Spurs. Leonard poured in a game-high 26 points and also contributed seven rebounds and five assists as the San Antonio Spurs upended the Dallas Mavericks 88-83 on Wednesday night at the AT&T Center. Leonard’s jump shot with 15 seconds remaining put the Spurs up by four. Devin Harris’ 3-pointer at 0:33 had cut the margin to one for the Mavs. The loss was the third in a row for the Mavs, who entered this three-game road trip with a six-game winning streak.

Key players: In addition to Leonard, the Spurs got 18 points and seven rebounds from Seagoville native LaMarcus Aldridge, and 16 points, eight rebounds and eight assists from Tony Parker.

Key stat: The Mavs converted just 6-of-22 shots from 3-point territory.

Records: Mavs 9-7, Spurs 12-3
