About the Jazz: Riding the wave of last season’s strong finish, the Jazz come off impressive victories over two Eastern Conference teams. Utah won in Atlanta (97-96) on Sunday and followed with Wednesday’s 93-89 victory over Toronto. ... Derrick Favors had 18 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Toronto. Favors averages 16 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. He is shooting 52.9 percent from the floor. ... Alec Burks (15.9 ppg) and Gordon Hayward (15.8 ppg, 39.5 percent) have been huge factors for the Jazz. Rudy Gobert is second in the league in blocks (3.2) and fifth in rebounds (11.0). ... Utah is tied for fifth in fewest points allowed (91.5).

About the Mavs: Back for one home game before hitting the road again, the Mavericks just completed a three-game road sweep with wins at Houston (110-98), Philadelphia (92-86) and Boston (106-102). Dirk Nowitzki scored a game-high 23 points Wednesday’ against the Celtics. ... The Mavericks are on a five-game winning streak and haven’t lost since falling 120-105 in New Orleans on Nov. 10. ... They are tied for fourth in the fewest turnovers made per game (13) and are fourth for the lowest 3-point field goal percentage allowed (30.6 percent). ... Dallas is holding opponents to 42.5 percent shooting from the field, sixth in the NBA.
