Pachulia’s fifth double-double powers Mavs past Lakers

Dirk Nowitzki of the Mavericks, left, and Lakers forward Kobe Bryant, two likely Hall of Famers, went head-to-head perhaps for the last time in Dallas. Bryant, who could be in his final season, scored 19 points while Nowitzki scored nine in the Mavericks’ victory.

Why the Mavs won: Zaza Pachulia had a monster game Friday as he finished with 18 points and 16 rebounds in the Dallas Mavericks’ 90-82 win over the Los Angeles Lakers at American Airlines Center. It was the fifth double-double of the season for Pachulia.

Key players: Besides Pachulia’s production, the Mavs got 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds from Dwight Powell. It was Powell’s second double-double of his career, both coming this season.

Key stat: The Mavs won despite shooting 36.6 percent from the field. That’s because their defense turned up the heat and held the Lakers to 33 percent shooting.

Records: Lakers 1-8, Mavs 5-4
