This is why Mavericks’ Chandler Parsons makes the big bucks

Now this is why the Dallas Mavericks shelled out $46 million over three years to Chandler Parsons.

The four-year veteran poured in 28 points — one off his season high — Sunday night at American Airlines Center as the Mavs eased to an easy 125-102 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.

Parsons was 12-of-31 with 29 points over the past two games, but finished Sunday’s contest with 28 points on 11-of-14 shooting.

“I’m just getting more comfortable every single game,’’ Parsons said. “Every single practice I get to know those guys better, I get to know the system better.

“It’s just all new to me, so it’s all been different. It’s all been a crazy experience.’’

The Mavs didn’t schedule a shoot-around Sunday morning. But Parsons showed up at AAC so he could work on his shot.

“He’s really working at it, but he came in and he wanted to shoot, so we shot for 20-30 minutes,’’ coach Rick Carlisle said. “He’s getting more accustomed to his teammates, and vice versa.

“When you work hard at it like that good things are going to happen.’’

With Parsons carrying the load, Monta Ellis — he usually carries the load — finished with a workmanlike 19 points in 29 minutes. Ellis was just glad to see Parsons playing aggressive and not being hesitant with his shot.

“He picked his spots, he made great plays,’’ Ellis said. “They left him open, he took his shots and he made them.

“He’s been getting those looks the whole season, he’s just getting comfortable taking those shots. He missed one and then he felt like he shouldn’t take the next one, but tonight even when he missed one he came back and he had that confidence to take the next one.’’

Dirk Nowitzki was impressed with how Parsons looked so at ease Sunday.

“He looked good, got to the basket a couple of times, and it always helps,’’ Nowitzki said. “He got a couple of layups there — that opens up your jump shot usually, he knocked them down.

“He was good in transition, he was good off the pick-and-roll, making decisions, getting to the basket, or passing the ball. So I thought he played a good all-around game today.’’
