Mavericks forward Parsons reveals he had hybrid microfracture procedure on knee

For months, no one knew for sure the correct diagnosis of Chander Parsons’ right knee injury

The Dallas Mavericks small forward suffered the injury April in a playoff game against the Houston Rockets, and underwent what the Mavs said was arthroscopic surgery to address a cartilage injury to his right knee. At Monday’s Media Day, Parsons revealed that he had required a hybrid microfracture procedure on his knee.

“There was a little confusion on that earlier,” Parsons said. “It wasn’t microfracture. It was a minor procedure.”

A 'minor' procedure that Parsons hopes will mean he’ll be back on the court sooner than he originally anticipated.

Microfracture surgery is a technique to repair cartilage by making small holes in the surface of the joint to stimulate a healing response.

“When I first went in, the rehab process was going to be a lot longer than usual, but it ended up not being as bad,” Parsons said. “It was in apparently a really good place where it wasn’t a weight-bearing injury in that spot of my knee. So they called it a hybrid microfracture [procedure], which reduced the recovery time about in half.

“That was obviously great news, and that’s why I was a little iffy on the subject, because I really didn’t know what it was myself or what to tell you guys. That’s what it was. I’m feeling great and getting better each and every day.”
