Dallas Mavericks are looking to deal key piece of Luka Doncic trade, report says

Fresh off the firing of general manager Nico Harrison, the Dallas Mavericks will look into trading 10-time All-Star forward Anthony Davis, according to an ESPN report.

Davis was the marquee player the Mavericks got back from the Los Angeles Lakers in the infamous Luka Doncic trade that led to Harrison’s firing.

The decision to move Davis could make sense for the Mavericks, who are 4-11 and fading from playoff contention while sporting one of the league’s worst offenses.

Davis has not played since suffering a calf injury Oct. 29 against the Indiana Pacers. He is averaging 20.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game, and the Mavericks are 2-3 when he plays.

The 32-year-old Davis has struggled with injuries since arriving in Dallas, and the Mavericks could find it difficult to recoup value for Davis in a trade because of his injury history and his contract, which calls for him to make $58.5 million next season and $62.8 million in 2027-28.

Trading Davis could signal the Mavericks are heading into a full rebuild around rookie No. 1 overall draft pick Cooper Flagg, but that process could be onerous. The team doesn’t own its 2027 first-round draft pick unless it falls in the top two, and Oklahoma City has the right to swap first-round picks with the Mavericks in 2028.
