Cooper Flagg visits Fort Worth as part of Mavs Academy Hoop Camp

Dallas Mavericks No. 1 draft pick Cooper Flagg surprised Fort Worth Country Day School on Tuesday, July 1, to participate in the Mavs Academy Hoop Camp and speak with campers.

Flagg held a Q&A session with the campers, revealing his favorite position was small forward and threw an off-the-backboard lob to himself while playing with camp participants.

Flagg talked about why he wanted to work with the campers and what the experience was like.

“It’s cool, it’s what I always wanted to do, this sort of thing, I remember looking up, idolizing the local high school players at my old school in Maine, so it was cool to be on the other side and just to see smiles come off their faces and kinda just bring some joy,” said Flagg, “It was a ton of fun I love working with kids and getting in the gym.”

Flagg said the only former NBA player he got to work with and meet when he was younger was Brian Scalabrine.

The Mavs Academy Hoop Camp focuses on young players, ages six through 18, developing basketball techniques and learning the importance of sportsmanship from Mavs Academy coaches.

This camp in Fort Worth will last four days, and those hoping to participate in future camps can sign up on the Mavs Academy website.
