Rosalind Williams, mother of O. D. Wyatt star Darrent Williams, dies at age 60
Legacy Mortuary Services announced on Facebook that Rosalind Williams died at age 60 on Sunday, surrounded by family.
“With profound sorrow and unwavering faith, we share the passing of our beloved Rosalind V. Williams. Surrounded by the love of her family and the grace of our Lord, she peacefully transitioned from this life. She was lovingly welcomed into eternal rest by her beloved son, Darrent Williams,” said the company in a post.
Williams’ son, Darrent, was a high school star in Fort Worth at O.D. Wyatt would go on to play at Oklahoma State before being drafted by the Denver Broncos in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft.
While in his second year with the Broncos, Williams was killed on New Year’s Day in 2007, in a drive-by shooting by Willie Clark, who was convicted in 2010 and sentenced to life in prison plus 1,152 years.
Denver Broncos Chief Communications Officer Patrick Smyth called Williams a remarkable woman on X, formerly Twitter, commending her for the strength she showed after her son’s death.
“Rosalind showed remarkable strength, grace and empathy through unimaginable grief following Darrent’s murder in 2007,” said Smyth, “She spoke to the team after a training camp practice in Dallas that year, sharing words of encouragement. Deepest sympathies to the entire Williams family.”
