Dallas Mavs announce Kyrie Irving has a broken hand. What’s the timetable for his return?
The Dallas Mavericks announced that Kyrie Irving had surgery to repair a broken left hand that he had injured earlier this month while training.
The Mavs did not set out a timetable for his return saying they would provide further medical updates as necessary.
Irving thanked fans for the well wishes on X, formerly Twitter.
“Tribe, Thank you for all the messages and prayers. GOD truly knew that I needed to take a break from Basketball after the long season and give myself some time to heal,” said Irving.
ESPN reporter Tim MacMahon reported that sources on the team told him they hope Irving will be able to return by training camp which begins on Oct. 3.
Irving and the Mavs are coming off the team’s best season since their 2011 championship after advancing to the NBA Finals and losing to the Boston Celtics in five games.
Irving had an up-and-down NBA Finals averaging 19.8 points, 5.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds on 41% shooting from the field and an uncharacteristically low 28% from three-point range.
Irving suffered from multiple injuries throughout the 2024 season that limited him to 58 games played including a heel contusion suffered in December.
