What’s the name of the Mavs’ first emotional support animal?
The Dallas Mavericks made NBA history when they became the first team in the NBA to have a team emotional support animal.
The Mavs added Bailey, a 2-year-old mini-Berna doodle to help keep the team’s stress levels down as they make a playoff push.
Assistant athletic trainer Heather Mau is Bailey’s handler and spoke to WFAA about what the young pup brings to the organization.
“She provides me so much joy,” said Mau, “You bring a cute little dog in this building, all these men here will melt.”
Mavs officials, including head coach Jason Kidd, agreed on bringing in Bailey. Center Dwight Powell explained how she can help players.
“I think it lightens a mood in a way that’s not taking away from the seriousness of what we do,” said Powell.
The Mavs have improved their record to 38-28 this season and are currently riding a four-game winning streak and are the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference.
Dallas is trying to return to the playoffs after missing last year’s postseason.
