Why was Luka Doncic ejected from Slovenia’s Basketball World Cup game against Canada?

Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic was ejected from Slovenia’s 100-89 loss to Canada in the quarterfinal of the FIBA Basketball World Cup in the Philippines on Wednesday.

Doncic was tossed from the game after he was given his second technical foul of the night with 6:37 remaining in the fourth quarter after arguing with referees over a non-foul call.

Doncic critiqued the officiating after the game in a press conference for what he felt was an unfair double standard.

“Playing for the national team, it’s a lot of emotions. A lot of times I don’t control myself, which I’ve been having problems with,” Doncic said. “But you know, the referees told one of the guys they’re not going to call a foul on him because he’s coming at us. I think this is not fair. I know I complained a lot, but I don’t think it’s fair. They’ve been playing very physical with me, but if you say that, it’s not fair.”

Slovenia will play Italy at 3:45 a.m. on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena in the 7th-place game. The game can be watched on ESPN+.
