The Dallas Mavericks traded Cason Wallace, the No. 10 pick in the 2023 NBA draft, and wing Davis Bertans to the Oklahoma City Thunder for the No. 12 pick in the NBA draft, according to ESPN.

Dallas will send Bertans to the Thunder so they will not pay the remainder of his contract. Bertans averaged 11 points per game on 39% shooting from 3. He appeared in 45 games but only started one. The Mavericks acquired Bertans in a trade in 2022 that sent Kristaps Porzingis and a second-round pick to Washington for Bertans and Spencer Dinwiddie, the latter who Dallas then sent to Brooklyn apart of the Kyrie Irving trade.

Bertans has two years remaining on his contract, with an early termination option after next season. By trading Bertans to OKC, the Mavericks will not have to owe him $17 million per year.

Dallas is projected to have more than $40 million in cap space, which gives the team more flexibility in retaining Irving, who will be an unrestricted free-agent this offseason and looking for a max contract.

The Mavericks then obtained Dereck Lively II from Oklahoma City, who picked him with the 12th pick.
