What do the Dallas Mavericks have to do to make the NBA playoffs?
Is time running out for the Dallas Mavericks to make the NBA playoffs?
With less than a week remaining, the Mavericks fell to 37-42 on the season and their seventh loss in their last 10 games when they lost in overtime at Atlanta on Sunday.
The Mavs currently sit in 11th place in the Western Conference.
The Mavs swoon has come at the worst possible time with the team now on the outside of the playoff picture.
With three games remaining in their schedule, the Mavs have an uphill climb to make the NBA Play-In tournament. Because of previous losses this season, the Mavs do not own the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Oklahoma City Thunder and need to finish a full game ahead of the Thunder to snag the last play-in spot.
The Thunder (38-41) end the season with games at the Golden State Warriors (41-38) on Wednesday, at the Utah Jazz (36-42) on Thursday and home against the Memphis Grizzlies (49-29) on Sunday. The Thunder are currently riding a two-game losing streak.
The Mavs final three games are all at home: against the Sacramento Kings (47-31) on Wednesday, against the Chicago Bulls (38-40) on Friday and against the San Antonio Spurs (20-58) on Sunday. The Mavs have lost their last three games in a row.
To make the play-in the Mavs would have to either win out or go 2-1 depending on the Thunder record over the last three games. The Thunder would need to lose at least twice over their last three games for the Mavs to pass them in the standings.
