Williams has agreed to sign with the Mavs if he clears waivers
As soon as he clears the NBA’s 48-hour waiver period, point guard Deron Williams will sign a two-year, $10 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks, according to sources.
The deal was first reported by ESPN.
Williams accepted a $27.5 million buyout from the Brooklyn Nets on Friday and will likely become the revamped Mavs’ starting playmaker next season. The 10-year veteran is coming off a disappointing season where he averaged 13 points and 6.6 assists per game, shot a career-low 38.7 percent from the field and missed 14 games due to injuries.
In the summer of 2012, Williams narrowed his free agent choices down to between the Mavs and Nets. The native of The Colony chose the Nets, but now close to be back with his hometown team.
Williams could be in the Mavs’ starting lineup next season along with Wesley Matthews, Chandler Parsons, Dirk Nowitzki and Zaza Pachulia.
