The Dallas Mavericks are trading for center Christian Wood but they’re losing a beloved member of the team to get him.

According to multiple reports, the Mavs are sending Trey Burke, Marquese Chriss, Sterling Brown and Boban Marjanovic, along with their No. 26 pick in the upcoming NBA draft, to the Houston Rockets for Wood.

The Mavericks have yet to officially announce the deal.

Most NBA pundits have praised the deal, with some going so far as to call it a steal for Dallas.

The only negative part of the trade, for some Mavs fans — and perhaps the Mavs No. 1 player Luka Doncic — is the loss of Marjanovic. Doncic and Marjanovic, who is not only beloved by Mavs fans but NBA fans across the league, are very close. Marjanovic has been a steady, older and experienced voice in the Mavs clubhouse during Doncic’s rise to superstardom.

Wood, who is 6-foot-10, turns 27 in September. He just completed his sixth season and second with the Rockets, averaging 17.9 points and 10.1 rebounds this season. He’s averaged a block per game over the past four seasons.
