Pier 1 Imports building in Fort Worth turns purple and gold in tribute to Kobe Bryant
Pier 1 Imports paid tribute to Kobe Bryant on Sunday night.
The national retailer, which is headquartered in Fort Worth, lit up its corporate building in Los Angeles Lakers purple and gold.
Bryant, 41, who played all 20 NBA seasons for the Lakers, died in a helicopter crash north of Los Angeles, along with his 13-year-old daughter and seven others.
The Pier 1 building is located on the west edge of downtown. The top of the medium-sized skyscraper was lit up, half in purple, half in yellow.
Tributes popped up around the country, at first in Los Angeles. The Staples Center held the Grammy Awards Sunday night but kept Bryant’s retired jerseys hanging from the rafters lit up during the show. Pier 1 Imports, the national retailer that is based in Fort Worth, paid tribute to Bryant by lighting up the top of their corporate toward in Lakers’ purple and gold. Houston City Hall did the same thing, as well as the home of the Knicks, Madison Square Garden.
