If you’re asking Kevin Durant, the Mavericks have a franchise player in Luka Doncic
Count Kevin Durant among those who believe the Dallas Mavericks have a franchise piece in Luka Doncic.
The Golden State Warriors star came away impressed by what he saw from Doncic on Saturday night. Doncic led the Mavs with 24 points in their 112-109 victory.
“I like him a lot,” Durant said. “He’s polished. He’s skilled. You can tell that he played professional basketball already and they’ve got a great guy in him to lead this franchise in the future. Him and Dennis Smith play well together.”
Doncic got off to an impressive start, scoring 12 of his 24 points in the first quarter. He made a floating jumper in the lane with 1:10 left to give the Mavs the lead, something they kept the rest of the way.
It marked Dallas’ first win over Golden State since Dec. 30, 2015. The Warriors had won 17 of the previous 18 matchups between the two going into it.
Doncic played well and showed why the Mavs were so aggressive to land him during the NBA Draft.
“I just wanna say it was an amazing game,” Doncic said. “We did a great job. They are the NBA champions for several times, so it was tough but I like my team. I love Dallas, so we were playing great.”
