Parsons left in the third quarter with soreness in his right knee

DALLAS – Dallas Mavericks forward Chandler Parsons left Thursday’s 108-101 loss to the Houston Rockets for good late in the third quarter.

But apparently, Parsons wasn’t feeling all that great before the game started.

Interestingly enough, coach Rick Carlisle said he found out through the grapevine that Parsons wasn’t all that healthy while playing in Wednesday’s 135-131 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

"After the game (Wednesday) night I heard about it and talked to him a little bit about it,’’ Carlisle said. "He was a little sore, but he didn’t think it was serious, and then he got treatment (Thursday).

"He got checked out at halftime (against the Rockets). He wasn’t having a lot of pain, he just got some swelling and he wanted to give it a shot, but then we pulled the plug.’’

Parsons wound up playing 26 minutes against his former team and finished with 11 points on 3-of-9 shooting. The Mavs diagnosed his injury as soreness in his right knee, but his status for Saturday’s home game against Golden State is unknown.

"I’m not sure exactly when (the injury) happened, but it was more noticeable after the game (Wednesday) night and he tried to go today,’’ Carlisle said. "He gave it a real shot and he just wasn’t moving right and he was having some discomfort, so we pulled him.’’

With Parsons gone, the Mavs disappeared on offense in the fourth quarter when they scored just 18 points on 5-of-19 shooting.

"I don’t really know what happened -- I have no clue,’’ forward Dirk Nowitzki said of Parsons’ injury. "All of a sudden he didn’t look great.

"He wasn’t in our halftime speech. Before that I had no idea he was even hurt.’’
