Brussino’s late burst of promise not enough to sell Dallas Mavericks on keeping him
Dallas Mavericks guard/forward Nicolas Brussino showed flashes of his potential at the end of the regular season and in summer league play.
It apparently wasn’t enough to stay on the team.
The Mavericks waived the 6-foot-8, 24-year-old Argentine on Thursday.
Brussino averaged 2.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and 9.7 minutes over 54 games, including two starts, with Dallas as a rookie. He had 18 points, five rebounds and three steals in a quarterfinal win over Boston in the Las Vegas summer league tournament this month.
Brussino played on Argentina’s Olympic team last summer in Rio, getting six points and six rebounds in 25 minutes over three games.
The Mavericks are stacked with young talent and might have found another sleeper or two during the two summer league tournaments. The Mavericks can take 20 players to training camp so there will likely be more roster moves in the next few months.
