Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki and wife have a new son

A new player has joined the Dallas Mavericks.

Dirk Nowitzki and his wife, Jessica Olsson, have a new son. Jessica gave birth to a boy Tuesday morning.

It’s the couple’s second child. They had a daughter, Malaika, in 2013.

Nowitzki did not attend the Tuesday morning shootaround, but Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said Nowtizki will play tonight against the San Antonio Spurs. Carlisle also said Nowitzki would not be fined for misisng Tuesday’s shootaround, but he never mentioned anything about the birth of Nowitzki’s child being the reason he skipped out on the shootaround.

“He’s got a personal situation,’’ Carlisle said. “We expect him to be here tonight.’’
