Stoudemire disappointed by quick toss
To his credit, Amar’e Stoudemire stuck around to do a postgame interview Friday night, although no one would have blamed him if he had already left American Airlines Center.
With 5:25 remaining in the third quarter of the Dallas Mavericks’ game against the Memphis Grizzlies, referee Scott Foster whistled Stoudemire for an offensive foul. Stoudemire took exception with the call and said something to Foster, who promptly issued the Mavs’ center a technical foul.
When Stoudemire continued to question Foster’s judgment, Foster tagged him another technical foul and an automatic ejection.
“It was too quick for two technical fouls,” Stoudemire said. “I’ve never received two techs that quick in my career.
“To be a 13-year vet, I figure I would have a little more respect. Just two technical fouls without saying a curse word to the official. But it is what it is.”
Coach Rick Carlisle also received a technical from Foster during the same sequence when he said a few things Foster didn’t care for.
All in all, the Mavs wound up on the short end of a 112-101 score, and dropped to 44-25 and into seventh place in the Western Conference standings with Friday’s loss.
“They played stellar ball, we didn’t,” Stoudemire said of the Grizzlies. “We still feel comfortable with our position, we still feel like we can still compete with the top teams in this league.
“Tonight wasn’t a great night tonight. But we’ll get the chance to prove it, get back to work tomorrow and go from there.”
