DALLAS – Charles Barkley used to be of the Dallas Mavericks’ biggest fans.
Not so more.
On the TNT broadcast of Thursday’s game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and San Antonio Spurs, Barkley said the Mavs’ acquisition of point guard Rajon Rondo is just not working out.
"The problem that the Mavs have is their two best players are Monta Ellis and Dirk Nowitzki,’’ Barkley said. "Those guys need the ball to be effective – so does Rondo.

"But that doesn’t work together.’’
The Mavs acquired Rondo on Dec. 18 in a blockbuster trade with the Boston Celtics. While the Mavs’ defense has improved since Rondo’s arrival, the Mavs are just 18-13 in the games the nine-year veteran has played in.
"Rondo can help Tyson Chandler, who is terrific, and Amar’e (Stoudemire), because those are finishers,’’ Barkley said. "But with Dirk and Monta Ellis, those guys need the ball.
"That’s why (the Rondo trade) has not worked.’’
