Carlisle not worried about Barnes’ poor shooting performance
That poor shooting performance by Dallas Mavericks forward Harrison Barnes on Monday night against the Charlotte Hornets apparently wasn’t anything that’s alarming to coach Rick Carlisle.
"I love the way he played,’’ Carlisle said. "He drew three or four fouls on hard cuts, he had a lot of good looks, he was real solid on defense and he played two positions.
"He’s a really important part of what we’re going to be doing.’’
Barnes was a very frosty 1-of-10 from the field against the Hornets and finished with just three points, two rebounds, two assists, one steal and four fouls in 17 minutes. And all of that misery came in just the first half, since he didn’t play in the second half.
Carlisle noticed something about Barnes’ shot, which he worked with him on it after Tuesday’s practice.
"It’s a couple of things we cleaned up today that he’s doing,’’ Carlisle said. "Just little mechanical things, so we worked on it today.’’
Carlisle believes Barnes will settle into a comfort zone as time passes.
"I love the shots that he got (Monday) – he is going to make those shots,’’ Carlisle said. "The more important thing is just sticking with the process.
"Right now we are playing the guys only a half, so as we go along he will be out there more. But I am real encouraged by the looks that he is getting. He’s just got to keep stepping into them.’’
