Texas Motor Speedway’s giant video board gets even bigger

Texas Motor Speedway’s giant video screen has gotten bigger just in time for the resumption of the Firestone 600 on Saturday.

The speedway announced Thursday that it had added a  9  1/2 -foot tall ribbon-style scoreboard along the bottom of the video board known as “Big Hoss,” making the screen just over a half acre in size.

The IndyCar race was postponed June 11 and rescheduled the following day but only 71 of the 248 laps were completed before rain suspended the action.

The race will start with James Hinchcliffe in the lead, Ryan Hunter-Reay second and Mikhail Aleshin in third. It begins at 8:15 p.m.

Will Power continued his late-season run Monday, winning the rain-delayed race at Pocono Raceway to pull within 20 points of Team Penske teammate Simon Pagenaud in the series points standings. Power has won four of six races.

With only three races remaining in the IndyCar season, Saturday’s race will be pivotal in the championship. The season concludes with races at Watkins Glen and Sonoma.

Tickets for the Firestone 600 are $28 and $10 for children 12 and under. Race admission is free for all first responders and a guest who show proper identification at the gates as part of “Back The Blue Night.”
