Why some will vote for the president at Texas Motor Speedway this year

Texas Motor Speedway hosted the state’s first sporting event amid the coronavirus pandemic when IndyCar opened its season in June. It then became the state’s first sporting venue to welcome fans back at a NASCAR race in July. It’s also hosted blood drives and high school graduations during the pandemic.

It’s adding presidential polling site to its 2020 resume. The track announced Thursday that it will be a polling site Nov. 3 for Precinct 4048 for those Fort Worth voters living in Denton County.

The polling booths will be located in the Lone Star Tower Condominium Clubhouse at TMS (3565 Lone Star Circle, Fort Worth, Texas, 76177), located just behind Turn 2. The site will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“In anticipation of a very high voter turnout for the presidential election, we have been working for months to acquire polling sites throughout the county,” Denton County elections administrator Frank Phillips said in a statement. “We are excited that Texas Motor Speedway has offered the use of the Lone Star Tower Clubhouse as a polling site for the residents of Precinct 4048 which encompasses a large portion of the Denton County, City of Fort Worth voters.

“We can always rely on TMS to come through for Denton County residents; earlier this year they hosted many graduation ceremonies for high school graduates who could not hold traditional ceremonies due to COVID-19, and now they are helping Denton County Elections in what promises to be a historic election.”

The track said it will follow local, state and CDC guidelines to ensure a sanitized, safe and socially distanced voter experience.

Before the election, TMS is scheduled to host a NASCAR race weekend Oct. 24-25. Fans will be allowed to attend the races on Sunday Oct. 25, a double-header with the NASCAR trucks running at 11 a.m. followed by the Cup race at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are available through the track’s website, starting at $48.
