Texas Motor Speedway cancels dirt track races, other events this fall amid pandemic
The coronavirus pandemic has forced another sporting event to cancel.
Texas Motor Speedway announced Friday that it won’t host its fall dirt track races this year. The Tony Stewart presents The Vankor Texas Sprint Car Nationals scheduled Oct. 23-24 is off, the track announced.
Additionally, TMS announced that other events canceled this fall include the Southwest Swap Meet, Sept. 17-20; the Goodguys 28th Summit Racing Lone Star Nationals, Sept. 25-27; and the Pate Swap Meet, Oct. 1-3.
“It’s unfortunate that these great events won’t be taking place this year at Texas Motor Speedway but we look forward to getting them back on the schedule as soon as safely possible,” track president Eddie Gossage said in a statement.
TMS is still going forward with plans for its fall NASCAR race weekend, though, Oct. 24-25. The Sunday races will be open to the general public with tickets starting at $48.
The doubleheader event on Sunday includes a NASCAR truck race at 11 a.m. followed by the Cup race at 2:30 p.m. The Xfinity Series race on Oct. 24 will not have spectators.
Ticket information and more details can be found on the track’s website.
