Texas Motor Speedway hosting blood drive in response to coronavirus pandemic

Texas Motor Speedway is hosting a blood drive on Wednesday.

The track has partnered with the American Red Cross North Texas Region and The NASCAR Foundation to put on the drive with the growing blood supply shortage due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The drive is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lone Star Condominium Clubhouse (3575 Lone Star Circle, Fort Worth, 76177). Those interested in donating should visit redcrossblood.org to register and schedule an appointment.

It is safe to give blood during this time if donors are feeling healthy and don’t have coronavirus symptoms such as a fever. The Red Cross has taken measures to ensure proper social distancing and sanitizing efforts are being done at blood drive locations such as TMS.

The track said that 30 donor spots had filled up as of Tuesday afternoon, and more were being made available.

Virtual hit

NASCAR’s Pro Series Invitational, the iRacing event held virtually at TMS on Sunday, drew a combined 0.81 rating and 1.339 million viewers on Fox and Fox Sports 1.

That made it the most-viewed esports event in U.S. TV history, breaking the previous record set by NASCAR’s virtual race at Homestead-Miami Speedway on March 22.
