Up to 200 racers competing at Texas Motor Speedway’s Friday Night Drags
Texas Motor Speedway’s Friday Night Drags, a “heads up, street style drag racing” for amateur racers, has seen an uptick in attendance in recent weeks, hosting as many as 200 competitors from North Texas.
The series concludes July 24.
Keller’s Brock Anders, a standout for the Keller High School basketball team last fall, has won the Sportsman Division the last four weeks with his black 1966 Chevy Nova SS.
“We’re just out here to have fun and go fast,” said Anders, who admitted the only training he’d ever had was late at night on Keller’s back roads before his dad suggested giving Friday Night Drags a try.
Racing is held on the eighth-mile pit road. The night also features a Show-N-Shine competition with separate divisions for best in show and best classic. Spectators are allowed to walk down on the track before the races to take pictures at the finish line and walk among the cars in competition.
Gates open at 6 p.m. The drag racing or show-n-shine entry fee is $20. Admission is $10 per adult and $5 per child at gate 6. Parking is free outside gate 6 or $20 for infield parking.
‘American Sniper’ showing Saturday night
Texas Motor Speedway will show American Sniper on its video board at 8 p.m. Saturday in a benefit for the Texas chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities. Cost is $20 per carload. Active or retired military personnel will receive a $10 discount.
