ARLINGTON The Rangers acquired minor league catcher Nevin Ashley from the New York Mets in exchange for cash late Wednesday evening.

Ashley, 32, has been with Triple A Las Vegas this season, hitting .240 with five home runs, 10 doubles and 28 RBIs in 63 games.

He’ll be assigned to Triple A Round Rock and is not on the Rangers’ 40-man roster. Round Rock catcher Brett Nicholas is likely to join the Rangers on Friday when rosters expand, leaving the Express in need of a catcher. Nicholas played 10 games for the Rangers the first month of the season. He’s hitting .289 with 13 homers, 27 doubles and 58 RBIs in 100 games for Round Rock this season.

Ashley played 12 games for the Brewers in 2015, going 2 for 20 with a double and an RBI. Ashley was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the sixth round in 2006.
