Perez hit hard in Rangers’ loss to Rays
Logan Forsythe hit a three-run homer during a five-run fourth inning Sunday against Martin Perez to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to an 8-4 victory over the Texas Rangers.
Delino DeShields and Drew Stubbs hit home runs for the Rangers, who lost the rubber match of the three game series and felt to 22-26 against teams with losing records.
Perez allowed six runs on five hits in six innings and fell to 1-8 on the road this season.
Hitting: The Rangers gave themselves a chance late after falling behind 6-2. ... They took a 2-0 lead in the third on Delino DeShields’ fourth homer of the season, a two-run shot to left-center. ... Drew Stubbs made it 6-3 with his third homer of the season, and second with the Rangers, with two outs in the fifth. ... Mitch Moreland drove in a run in the seventh as a pinch-hitter as his two-out blooper fell in center field. Nomar Mazara pinch hit for Delino DeShields, but struck out as the potential go-ahead run. ... Adrian Beltre and Rougned Odor couldn’t get Ian Desmond home from second in the eighth.
Pitching: Martin Perez had the lead after three innings but not after four. ... Up 2-1 entering the fourth, Perez saw the Rays opened double, single, single to tie the score and then used a one-out squeeze bunt by Bobby Wilson for a 3-2 lead. Logan Forsythe was next, and he launched a three-run homer. ... Perez allowed only five hits in six innings, four of them in the fourth. He walked three, including two in the third as the Rays got their first run. ... Jeremy Jeffress and Sam Dyson, who hadn’t worked since Tuesday, worked the final two innings. Jeffress’ seventh was clean. Dyson allowed a two-run homer in the eighth.
