Rangers’ Choo breaks arm, could miss rest of season
Texas Rangers right fielder Shin-Soo Choo is likely to miss the rest of the season because of a broken left forearm.
Choo was hit by a Ross Detwiler fastball in the fifth inning Monday and quickly left the game against the Oakland A’s. The hit by pitch sparked a four-run inning, with all four runs coming on a grand slam by Adrian Beltre.
The Rangers said that Choo will be placed on the disabled list for a fourth time this season, following stints for a calf strain, a hamstring strain and a back strain.
Choo, the team’s leadoff hitter, is batting .247 this season but entered Monday with a .369 on-base percentage.
Outfielder Ryan Rua was pulled from a game with Triple A Round Rock on Monday and could be recalled to replace Choo. The Rangers said that they are discussing their options.
The club said that the injury is similar to the broken right forearm that put Robinson Chirinos on the DL in April. Chirinos missed two months.
