Catcher Bryan Holaday was claimed on outright waivers by the Boston Red Sox. The Fort Worth resident and former TCU star was activated off the 15-day disabled list and designated for assignment on Aug. 1. Catcher Bobby Wilson was claimed by the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday.

Both catchers were expendable once the Rangers acquired All-Star catcher Jonathan Lucroy in a trade with the Brewers. Holaday was played on the DL July 5 with a left thumb bruise. He hit .238 with two homers and 13 RBIs in 28 games for the Rangers. He was acquired from the Tigers on March 29.
