Rangers’ Hamilton to miss rest of season after another knee operation
Outfielder Josh Hamilton, the 2010 American League MVP, will undergo surgery on his left knee June 8 in Houston and miss the rest of the season.
Hamilton has been bothered by his knee all season after having surgery on it twice in the span of a month last year. He underwent a non-surgical procedure during spring training and started a rehab assignment April 30 only to leave that game early with knee soreness.
General manager Jon Daniels announced the news Monday afternoon, the same day that Shin-Soo Choo was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring. He was injured Friday on his first day off the disabled list because of a strained right calf.
Triple A Round Rock outfielder Jared Hoying will have his contract purchased and replace Choo on the active roster, but the Rangers had not announced who would be cleared out to create a spot on the 40-man roster.
Hamilton, who turned 35 on Saturday, was acquired last year from the Los Angeles Angels but played only 50 games with a variety of injuries, including trouble with his left knee. Daniels said that Hamilton plans to return in 2017.
