Hamels, Odor help Rangers snap three-game skid
Cole Hamels allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings Friday, and Rougned Odor hit a solo homer in the fifth and drove in two more as the Texas Rangers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over Jordan Zimmermann and the Detroit Tigers.
The lone hit against Hamels was a leadoff single by Ian Kinsler. The Tigers had two base runners against him after that, both on walks.
Elvis Andrus and Bobby Wilson drove in two-out runs in the second off Zimmermann, the American League Pitcher of the Month in April after going 5-0 with a 0.55 ERA. Odor’s homer came with two outs, as did his two-run double in the ninth.
Hitting: Mitch Moreland started a two-out rally in the second with a shift-beating single and scored from first as Elvis Andrus’ liner to right-center split the outfielders and got to the warning track. Bobby Wilson followed with a sharp single against the team that traded him two days ago. ... Rougned Odor’s deep shot to right field was his team-leading fifth homer of the season. He put the game out of reach with a two-run double in the ninth.
Pitching: Hamels allowed only one runner to get to third base. It was Ian Kinsler, who led off the first inning with a single, stole second and advanced on a Miguel Cabrera grounder. That was the only hit against Hamels, who walked two and struck out nine in seven innings. ... Jake Diekman fired a 1-2-3 eighth inning, striking out two. ... Sam Dyson issued a run in the ninth, a mini-rally started by a Kinsler leadoff double.
