Rangers recap: Seventh-inning power surge leads Orioles in rout

The Baltimore Orioles saw the Rangers’ five-run second inning and raised it by four. The Orioles scored nine times in the seventh, including seven against Rangers relievers to even the series with an 11-5 win Friday night at Globe Life Park.

Pitching: Martin Perez shook off a first-inning run and held the Orioles scoreless the next five innings before allowing a two-run homer by Mark Trumbo with no outs in the seventh. Perez left with the Rangers leading 5-3 but Tom Wilhelmsen was scorched for five runs on five hits, including consecutive home runs by Jonathan Schoop and Nolan Reimhold which gave Baltimore a 6-5 lead. A double and single made it 7-5 before Andrew Faulkner replaced Wilhelmsen with two outs and a runner on. He walked his first batter and then Trumbo gave the Orioles a 10-5 lead with a three-run run a homer, his second in the inning. Perez was charged with three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks. He struck out six in six innings.

Hitting: The Rangers batted around in the second, collecting five runs on three hits, including a two-run single to center by Delino DeShields. Mitch Moreland started the rally with his first homer of the season, an opposite-field shot to left-center field that tied the game at 1-1. With the bases loaded, Bryan Holaday was hit by a pitch to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead. DeShields followed with his two-run single, scoring Rougned Odor and Elvis Andrus. Orioles starter Vance Worley withstood the five-run second and held the Rangers scoreless the next four innings. He left after the sixth inning.

Notable: Both teams wore jersey No. 42 in honor of Jackie Robinson Day ... Robinson played in his first major league game April 15, 1947 ... 32,628 was the announced attendance Friday night.
